The Calm Before the Storm

It's been a weirdly quiet week for me and Love in the Time of Monsters. I can see things coming over the horizon, potential problems and the like, but there's nothing I can do about it right now. Instead, all there is for me is to keep my head down and my legs moving. Eventually we'll get there, right?

I've been spending my days living with the script; Reading and rereading, breaking it down, writing out thoughts, discovering new tidbits in the writing. You know, director's stuff. I need to get my thoughts in order so when I talk to any of our department heads, I'll actually have something to tell them as opposed to just stumbling blinding through the conversation. I'm creating the baseline that we can all work off of, and hopefully flourish from.

When not dissecting the script, I've been on a steady diet of classic, and not-so-classic, horror movies. From the campy 80s cult classic Basket Case (about a Siamese twin who lives in a basket and murders people) to the more contemporary psychological horror of Let The Right One In (the Swedish movie about kids and vampires), I've been burying myself in material to get my head in the right place. So far, one of my favorites has been Ti West's "The House of the Devil", a great looking throwback movie about a babysitter getting traumatized by a cult. It's a good thing that I don't get nightmares...

The big news, of course, is our impending casting session this Saturday. After months of dream lists, talk, and general preproduction, it's time to jump feet first into the fun stuff. We're all crazy excited to see what these different actors can bring to the material. Who knows, we might even incorporate some stuff... (I think Mike just had a heart attack. I'm kidding, Mike!)

Finally this week, I got the best surprise ever from my frequent non-film related collaborator Don Nguyen as he unveiled a teaser poster (or at least a tease of it) for Love in the Time of Monsters over at our webcomic site, Spicy Braun Comics. And while you should 100% check out that link, just in case you don't, here's the poster in it's full (almost finished) glory.

Bigfoots! Sexy girls! Horror! See it today!

And now if you'd excuse me, I have some more work to get to...
