It's the most wonderful time of year! Or something like that.
Halloween has always been a favorite holiday of mine, even when I didn't know it. When I was a kid, my mom would make the greatest costumes for me and proceeded to set the bar pretty high for future endeavors. From Orko and Link to oddball favorites like The Stay Puft Marshmallow man and Mac Tonight - the McDonald's mascot for a few years in the late eighties, played by our very own Doug Jones! How's that for a connection? - I was always rocking something awesome for the spookiest night of the year.
As time went by, however, my interest in the holiday waned. Call it youthful indiscretion (or, you know, a young nerd desperately trying to hide his geeky interests), but from middle school through most college I was not the costume type. That's for younger kids, not mature adults like me," I would tell myself.
Oh how wrong I was. It's funny how in college the things that were definitely not cool become very cool.
Since the rediscovery, Halloween has become one of my favorite holidays again. From the quick make-shift costumes I've made (I'm looking at you, Secret Agent Gorilla) to the thought out and considered (Bro-bi Wan Kenobi), it's been fun to try and top myself every year.
Far and away, my favorite costume of the past few years was a group costume I did with my old roommates. Inspired by god knows what, we decided to go as dudes in suits being attacked by animals AND IT WAS GLORIOUS. And if that wasn't intricate enough, we decided we needed to shoot small prelude videos to explain our current predicament. So, for your viewing pleasure on this Night of Scares, I thought it would be fun to share these awesome bits of Halloween past with you.
And the results:
